The family history in kenya dates back to the turn of the century.
Sir Derek Erskine was almost completely alone among his British peers to support  Kenya’s 1st president, Jomo Kenyatta from the early days and support Kenyan independence,

Shortly after Kenyan independence when many brits were going home, Derek made the decision to stay in Kenya and help build a nation with his fellow countrymen, In 1974 his son Francis Erskine acquired Sanctuary Farm as a residence for himself and his race horses

Francis’s son Guy, married another Kenyan born brit: Julie and this is really where Our journey in hospitality began. She had a strong passion for cooking, painting, styling but most of all creating special moments with friends and family. Her vision transformed the property from a struggling farm to a thriving boutique hotel.

The oldest son went on to become an architect and designed many of the inspiring spaces you may come across on your weekend getaway at Sanctuary Farm

The younger son, Felix and His Wife Muhabi are your hosts on the ground at Sanctuary Farm where they are raising their son: Cosmo. Muhabi is a talented musician and loves organizing live music events, Felix is a passionate gardener, sailor and fisherman. They both love meeting guests from around the world and are always delighted to help.

Quillie, Julie’s daughter, the youngest, is potty about horses and takes care of our wildly popular equestrian escapade. Even though she lives in The Uk and combats ocean pollution and other environmental threats.

Tragically our mother Julie Erskine passed away in 2017, she will always be lovingly remembered as a loving wife and mother.
